The Region 11 (South)

five day glider contest

to be held at

Crazy Creek Soaring,

Middletown, Ca

from

May 16 to May 25, 2009

If you have ever wanted to participate in a contest, racing your glider against others, then NOW is your chance. This well proven setting is nearly perfect for good springtime soaring conditions. One of the following situations might fit your circumstances:

  • If you plan to fly in the Nationals up at Siskiyou in June, then this will be a good warm up.
  • If you always wondered what it would be like to fly with some really experienced pilots, this might be a good opportunity. I suspect there will be several National level competition pilots participating in this event at Crazy Creek.
  • If you hoped you would have an opportunity to learn how to fly a contest, this might just be your opportunity. This is not a high altitude airport, and the land out areas are relatively plentiful.
  • If you are planning on doing the Grand Canyon Tour at Parowan this year, this contest at Crazy Creek is a good way to get your sea legs.

If you live anywhere near the Central or Northern areas of California, this contest will be in your local area and will be held in the Spring of 2009.

A convenient location, a few miles northeast of Napa Valley, this fully insured contest, sanctioned by the Soaring Society of America (SSA), will be operated by the Indrebo Family and will be held at Crazy Creek Soaring Center, Middletown, Ca.

See the center of this Google Map:

Details are posted on the SSA Web Site as well as in SOARING magazine.

This contest is open to all classes of gliders. Here is the current info, as posted on the SSA web site:

This is scheduled in the same very convenient format that the Indrebos' used in past contests. The first two contest days will be on the third weekend in May - the 16th and 17th.

And, the final three days will be the following weekend - which is Memorial Day Weekend - the 23rd, 24th and 25th.

Jim plans to have an enormous Banquet. It is quite a celebration.

Those of you who have experienced the Dinner Parties at Truckee and Parowan, know the fun to be had at these major parties.

Rick Indrebo is the Contest Director and he is the person to go to if you have any questions or concerns. Email directly to me at gliding@sonic.net, and I will give you Rick's phone number, email address, etc.

Would you like to see, and study and use, the Official Data Base of Turnpoints that will be used during this Contest? John Leibacher has kindly posted the files in all necessary formats for all glider operated GPS systems, as well as a Goodle Earth file ( which you can used to study and prepare yourself for this contest).
