AGENDA
Saturday March 15, 2008
VSA SATURDAY RACE SERIES OPENING DAY
PREPARED TO SURVIVE -- Darryl Ramm
You just landed out and nobody knows where you are, or maybe you really
crashed or maybe you bailed out of your glider - would you wish you were
better prepared, had a plan and key survival equipment? Then this talk is
for you.
BARRIERS TO FLYING THE BIG ONE -- Panel Discussion
What common poor techniques, misunderstandings or other barriers prevent
pilots from progressing in cross country soaring? What is holding you back
from that next 750km flight? Panel members will discuss how to avoid
issues that they believe can hold pilots back from progressing in cross
country flying.
----------------------------------
The speakers for the series are some of the most experienced and articulate soaring pilots in Region 11. It is a Dinner/Seminar Program not to be missed - see you there!

Q - What speed should you fly?
A - Depends on 4 factors –
Air movement, altitude, distance to landing, distance to thermal.
See 3 concrete examples –
Rich (7HV) flying fast, Luke (C1)flying far, Jim (1B) flying efficiently.
Some are contrasted with logs by Peter (PK) flying in the same air.
Q – What route should you fly?
A – The one with the best lift!
See suggestions on how to choose the best route.
Q – When should you leave a thermal?
A – If max flying time/ duration, then probably not until the rate of
climb drops to zero, but most al other times – probably well before that
point.
See this info as well as 119 beautiful photos of our local pilots in flight, by Tom Jue, Expert Photographer. Formats for photos are pdf, as well as jpg – viewable on many TV’s, via the DVD player.
