Flight log from PK2, with arrow showing departure from last thermal climb to 5,000 feet. The first photo above (1tg-climb) was snapped when PK2 was at the to of that last thermal. Location is about 6 miles east of Travis AFB.

Rio Vista is about 10 miles to the south.

Here is a fascinating review of a moment in time on that flight.

Playing both the TG and PK2 flight logs together, and then comparing them to the photo that was taken of Ramy, you can see that although Ramy appears to be low, he was well above the terrain ( actually above 3,000 ft), and although it appears that Ramy was over, or north of the diagonal canal in the photo, he was in fact well to the south of that canal.
